Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government should table the South Punjab province bill in the assembly despite lack of a two-thirds majority.
He expressed these views in an interview on Sunday, adding that the hypocrisy of the opposition parties would be exposed if the bill would be rejected by them in the provincial legislature. “The opposition always chanted slogans in the past about the creation of a separate South Punjab province but threw a spanner when the PTI government took practical steps toward meeting the longstanding demand of the people,” he said.
The governor appreciated the role of overseas Pakistanis and said that the country owed a great deal to the patriotic Pakistanis who sent home $2.5 billion foreign exchange in July. “Problems faced by the expatriates are being solved on a preferential basis and the government, under the leadership of the prime minister, would achieve the cherished ideal in the coming years,” Sarwar claimed.
He also underlined the need to engage the international community in order to defeat Indian propaganda against Pakistan related to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) plus status and other issues.
