Polio vaccination drive starts in Pindi

As part of the government’s efforts to eradicate polio, the Rawalpindi administration kicked-off anti-polio drive on Saturday. The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Health Authority (DHA) Chiefm Executive Officer (DHO) Dr Sohail Ahmed launched the campaign by administering polio drops to a child. The immunisation campaign remained suspended for six months due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The drive will continue from September 21 to September 25, in which some 875,400 children aged below five years would be administered the polio vaccine. The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq would monitor the drive. As many as 2,631 mobile teams, 578 area In-charges and 224 medical officers (MOs) at Union Council (UC) level would take part in the immunisation drive. Some 298 fixed centres and 125 transit points have been established in the Rawalpindi district.

DHA CEO said that the drive was being commenced effectively, adding that it remained suspended for six months due to the coronavirus lockdown. CEO said that the training of workers to perform the task has already been completed.
