Another newborn’s body recovered
Police claimed to have recovered the body of a newborn baby from Samundari Road Mazhabiwala on Wednesday.
After giving birth, an unidentified woman threw the newborn baby and fled away.
Police seized the body on the information of the citizens. Reportedly, a woman threw a newborn baby near Samandari Road Mazhabiwala and escaped.
Police have recovered the bodies of 17 newborns from different places during the last nine months, some of which were found in fields, sewage and roadsides.
Most of the cases have been registered by the police but so far police have not been able to nab any woman who gave birth to newborns.
SSP Investigation Kashif Aslam said that it is difficult to trace the female accused in such cases because such incidents happen at nights.
On September 8, a woman threw a newborn baby into a canal. Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot on the report of passers-by, pulled out the body from the canal and handed it over to police.
The unidentified woman fled after throwing the newborn baby into the canal near Pul-e-Abdullah, Samundri Road in D-Type Colony. Passers-by spotted the baby drowning and alerted Rescue 1122 staff, who reached the spot and pulled out the body.
A large number of local people gathered around the canal to witness the rescue operation. Police shifted the body to Allied Hospital and started efforts to trace the woman.
This is not the only incident in which a minor was thrown into a canal by a relative in Punjab.
On February 15, a six-year-old boy’s body was retrieved from a canal by Rescue 1122 workers in Chichawatni. The body was shifted to a hospital.
Reportedly, the child was thrown into the canal by his paternal uncle and the accused had been arrested.
The minor, identified as Ahsan, was a resident of Ada Gambhir, in Yousufwala. He was thrown into the canal by his uncle while he was playing with him. The body was found floating towards the Commerce College.
