Renewable energy: Pakistan rich in resources

LCCI office-bearers said Pakistan received 3,000-3,300 hours of sunshine per year on average

LAHORE:

Renewable energy is a cheap source of energy which has changed the approach of big economies from conventional sources of power to more efficient, cheap and nature-friendly resources. These views were expressed by Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Senior Vice President Ali Hussam Asghar and Vice President Mian Zahid Jawaid Ahmed during a meeting with a delegation on renewable energy on Monday. They said Pakistan was rich in resources needed for renewable energy as it could receive on an average about one kilowatt of solar energy for one square metre of its landmass for six to seven hours a day. The LCCI office-bearers said Pakistan received 3,000-3,300 hours of sunshine per year on average and it provided a great opportunity to investors to focus on the sector. “Punjab has a great importance in Pakistan’s economy as it contributes around 55% to the national GDP and accounts for about 68% of electricity demand in the country,” they said.
