The federal government cannot build anything in the Sindh government's jurisdiction without consulting it, said provincial agriculture minister Ismail Rahoo, responding to the Centre's decision to build new cities on the Bhandar and Dangi islands.

"The federal government's dream of building a new city on Sindh's coast will never come true," he maintained in a statement issued on Monday.

Rahoo pointed out that according to the Constitution, the maritime area up to 12 nautical miles of the provincial coastline fell under Sindh's jurisdiction, adding that the federation would not be allowed to occupy the province's land and resources.

The minister further said that settling these cities on the islands would destroy marine life, including fish and tamarind forests, adding that former president Pervez Musharraf's attempts to build cities on Bhandar and Dangi had also failed.
