City sees light showers

Rain pattered across different areas of the city on Monday evening under a new monsoon system.

A low-pressure system is being observed at an altitude of 5,000 feet south-east of Karachi which is getting its moisture from the north-east, said Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz. Yesterday's rainfall was experienced under this system.

Earlier, it had been said the system had largely shifted to the sea and the city was unlikely to experience rain.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Surjani Town at 27.8 millimetres while North Karachi received 3.6mm of rain, North Nazimabad 2mm, Nazimabad 1mm and Saadi Town received 0.6mm of rain.

According to the Met Office, weather in the city today (Tuesday) is expected to remain partially cloudy and humid while light showers may be witnessed in some areas.

The maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 37.3 degrees Celsius and the lowest was at 28.5 degrees Celsius, with hot winds blowing from Balochistan.
