CDA, police to work on improving traffic

Service roads along major highways to be upgraded on priority

ISLAMABAD:

To address traffic congestion in the city, the major stakeholders have decided to work together to overcome hurdles and bottlenecks.

This was directed by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Aamer Ali Ahmed on Friday while chairing a high-level meeting with officials of CDA, ICT administration and the Islamabad Traffic Police at the CDA Headquarters.

Ahmed said that the three should work together to overcome traffic issues in the capital.

In this regard, the CDA should upgrade the entire traffic infrastructure of the city, including traffic signals, lane marking, signage, lighting and horticulture. It was further directed that service roads along major highways should be upgraded, particularly service roads along the Srinagar Highway and Islamabad Highway. Fences along major roads including the highway and expressway should be carried out along with properly designed entry and exit points should also be constructed along major arteries.

‘Constitutional amendment needed to alter CDA board’

Traffic signals around the city should be converted into smart signals and patchwork on all roads of the city should be expedited.

To manage traffic in the city, a proper traffic plan should be devised to maintain traffic flow on the expressway during the construction of the Korang and PWD Bridges.

The issue of traffic congestion on Margallah Road should also be addressed.

The meeting was told that progress on the directions issued during the subject meeting will be monitored daily.
