KARACHI:
At least three alleged criminals were shot dead during an encounter with the police on the Northern Bypass in Gulshan-e-Maymar.
The police claim that a special police picket under supervision of SHO Amanullah Marwat had been established on the Northern Bypass after several complaints were filed about mobile-phone snatchings and pickpocketing.
“The encounter took place when three armed men in a blue Suzuki Alto were trying to escape after stealing Rs10,000 and a cell phone from Saleem Ali,” said DSP Iftikhar Lodhi. “The unidentified armed men attacked the police when they were asked to surrender and killed in retaliation.”
He added that the three men were in their mid-twenties and the police had received several complaints against them. Lodhi claimed that the police seized a car and three TT pistols from them. Their bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
