RAWALPINDI:

Two brothers were killed and three of their relatives were injured as three armed motorcyclists opened fire in the Dhok Syedan area.

The deceased brothers were identified as Abrar Hussain and Naveed Hussain while the victims include a man and his two sons. All five victims are members of the same family.

The men were present in the main bazaar of the area around noon when the assailants came riding a bike and opened fire on them with automatic weapons and left unchallenged.

The victims’ family staged a protest on the main road of the housing scheme where the incident took place. The protesters blocked burnt tyres to block the road owing to which traffic remained jammed for two hours. However, the Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO)Ahsan Younis accompanied by other high officials reached the site and assured the protesters of taking action against the assailants on merit.

The protestors dispersed peacefully on assurances from Rawalpindi city police chief, asserting that they would see if the top cop keeps his word.

Meanwhile, police squads cordoned off the site and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. Police officers said the bodies have been shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for an autopsy.

Regarding the killings, officers said that it was too early to say whether it was due to personal enmity or while resisting a robbery.
