ABBOTABAD:

To resolve community problems, help control crime and bridge the gap between the community and the police, the Hazara division police on Tuesday launched “Raabta”, a community engagement programme.

The programme was formally launched by the Hazara Regional Police Officer (RPO) Qazi Jamilur Rehman through a circular issued to all District Police Officers in the region on Tuesday.

The RPO stated that community engagement is the essence of modern policing as it breaks down the barriers of apathy and distrust between the police and the community.

“Reinvigorating the public and different segments of society helps police achieve its primary objectives of crime prevention, detection and maintenance of law and order,” he said, adding that to understand public issues and, there is a need to go to the public and ask them about their issues and to address them.

According to an action plan prescribed, RPO Rehman directed DPOs, SDPOs and SHOs to follow a structured programme and hold public meetings with locals accordingly.

All DPOs were directed to hold meetings with the public or their representatives and educational institutions at least once a month, and once in two months with local religious scholars, once in three months with traders as well as members of minority communities and police liaison committees.
