Victim went to see his land in a village when rivals attacked

A professor of the Government Jinnah Islamia College, Sialkot was shot dead while his three companions sustained bullet injuries in a village of Tehsil Pasrur on Tuesday.

Police said that Islamic Studies teacher Prof Sajjad Kareemi, along with his three companions, went to see his land in Paropi Nagra village when his rival Rana Usman allegedly opened indiscriminate fire. As a result, Prof Kareemi died on the spot while three others identified as Shahbaz, Abid and Nadeem sustained bullet injuries.

The dead and injured were shifted to Pasrur Civil Hospital.

A case has been registered against the accused. Police are looking into the matter.

Earlier, in July 2020, a former Punjab University (PU) professor was shot dead by unidentified suspects on Multan Road. The victim was identified as Ahmed Ali Chatha. On the day of the incident, the victim left his house in Mustafa Town reportedly to see sacrificial animals.

Meanwhile, two unidentified motorcyclists intercepted and shot at him. He sustained serious bullet injuries and died on the spot.

The victim had also served as the university’s additional controller examination. DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan said that the slain professor Chatha was going to see his sacrificial animals at the farmhouse when suddenly unknown suspects attacked at him.

He succumbed to his injuries on the spot while the culprits succeeded to flee from the scene.
