Alleged car-jacker killed in road crash

An alleged motor vehicle thief trying to escape to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after stealing a car met an accident on Motorway near Hasan Abdal on Monday.

Police said that the car thief lost control of the vehicle which swerved off the road and ran into a tree killing him on the sport besides damaging the car. Officials said that the owner of the vehicle had filed a report with the police that his car had been stolen from the parking area of a hospital in the morning.

Subsequently, an alert was sounded off on wireless and all police pickets, along with the National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) were alerted. Within hours, the car was spotted on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway heading towards Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. An NHMP squad chased the car and signalled it to pull over, however, the driver tried to run away.

The suspect pressed accelerator and reached highly dangerous speed and eventually near Hasan Abdal, he lost control of the steering and met an accident. The car skidded off the road and rammed into a tree. The suspect died on the spot.

Police have moved the suspect’s body to Hasan Abdal Tehsil Headquarters (DHQ) hospital and the investigation of the case was underway.
