Another feather

Once this machine is available in the market, it will hopefully rid people of such hassles

Pakistan has added another feather to its cap by developing a critical medical device used for patients suffering from renal failure. The country’s first bloodless risk-free dialysis machine has been developed by the local medical devices company named Byonyks in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Pakistan is now the 5th country in the world — along with the US, Germany, Japan, France and China — to have its indigenously produced ‘Bloodless’ Dialysis Technology. The testing and trial data is being gathered for feedback and patient health progress.

Farrukh Usman, a Harvard graduate and the founder of Byonyks, has developed this painless and risk-free dialysis machine with monetary support from Ignite and Angel Investors. The unique technology does not require extracting blood out of the human body to perform dialysis. Patients can perform bloodless dialysis at home without any supervision with protection from life threatening infections. According to Usman, multiple patients have used the painless dialysis procedure under prescription and supervision of Pakistan’s leading nephrologists.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque appreciated the spirit of Byonyks team for developing the first of its kind electromedical equipment in Pakistan. The team managed to convince Ignite which continuously looks out for innovative ideas that could be turned into a commercially viable products through their seed funding. Byonyks exceeded their expectations by developing this state-of-the-art dialysis machine that saves the patients from frequent hospital visits, recurring procedural hassles, pain and infections. Transporting older parents to a dialysis centre is not easy for both parents and people belonging to the working class. Once this machine is available in the market, it will hopefully rid people of such hassles.
