NAB urged to probe corruption in Chagai

Communications and Works minister accused of receiving kickbacks

QUETTA:

Several local politicians have demanded the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate funds worth Rs9 billion released for the ongoing and newly proposed development schemes in Chagai district.

They blamed the Minister for Communications and Works for receiving kickbacks through his brother who is a contractor and few other close relatives in his constituency.

While addressing a large public gathering at Shaheed Hameed Baloch Chowk in Dalbandin, former provincial minister Sakhi Amanullah Notezai, former chairman district council Chagai, Dawood Khan Notezai, former union council chairman Mir Arz Mohammad Barech, Malik Rahmtullah Notezai, Sardar Akbar Jan Mohammad Hasni, Haji Abdur-Rehman Reki and others accused the provincial minister of misusing his powers by constantly influencing local administration and other departments.

All focus have been placed on repair and renovation of old buildings, construction of roads and other less important projects while the masses are deprived of basic healthcare, educational facilities and drinking water, they further added.

The speakers also criticised the local administration for playing in the hands of ruling elites, alleging that the deputy commissioner and other officials were following dictations by their so called private bosses whereas the Levies Force has been detracted to serve political interests of the aforementioned provincial minister through illegal transfer postings.

They also alleged that Levies Force officials were busy in receiving bribes along the Pak-Afghan border to allow smuggling. “Former assistant commissioner Ayesha Zehri was humiliated and then forcefully transferred after she resisted political influence by this minister. “Even the seized drugs were declared as herbs through the Punjab laboratory to demoralise Zehri who had then put her life on threat while conducting an operation against smugglers near the Pak-Afghan border in Chagai district,” Notezai lamented.
