Literacy centres open in Darul Amaans
The Punjab Literacy Department has decided to set up as many as 28 literacy centres for women at all the Darul Amaans of the province.
Once set up, women residing in these shelter homes will be able to obtain free education. Moreover, they will also be taught different vocations including sewing, computer operations etc.
Those who have obtained educated until the primary level will be provided education up to the middle-level. Those who have spent time in classrooms until middle school will be given high school-level education.
Punjab Literacy Minister Raja Rashid Hafeez said that they were transforming Darul Amaans into centres of peace, education, and skill development. He added that every woman who takes shelter at a Darul Amaan does so to escape problems and difficulties in her life. The provision of free education will arm her to take on life.
The provincial minister said that educated women living at the shelters will be given the status of a teacher, adding that they will also receive some payment for their efforts. Hafeez added that they have already established 30 literacy centres across the province, including six for people who are transgender to make them self-reliant through skill development.
