Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) celebrated its 136th Foundation Day on Tuesday. Highlighting the university’s history, SMIU vice chancellor Dr Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon pointed out that they still had to live in the 21st century and be prepared for it. “Many of our national heroes who served the country were produced by this institution. Quaid-e-Azam was one of the leading names, while Allama II Kazi, Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto, Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah and Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah were among the others,” he stated, adding that the university would produce research on Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s struggle as well. He further announced five award categories for faculty, staff and students, while suggesting the varsity highlight the work of two alumni each year. While the ceremony was held on a limited scale due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a larger celebration is to be held at the end of the month.
