Warehouse goes up in flames

A fire erupted in a garment factory's warehouse located in Gulbai, SITE Area on Monday night. Soon after being informed of the incident, firefighters reached site and started rescue operations. Talking to The Express Tribune on Monday night, fire department officials said seven fire tenders, as well as Karachi Water and Sewerage Board's water tankers, had been sent to the site to douse the fire, 60 per cent of which had been contained until then. The firefighting operation was underway till the filing of this report on Monday night.

Blaze erupts in textile mill

A blaze erupted in a textile mill near Siemens Chowrangi on Monday night. On being informed of the incident, firefighters, along with three fire tenders, reached the spot. The firefighting operation was underway till the filing of this report late Monday night.

Man injured in firing incident

A man was injured in firing near his house in Qasba Colony, it was reported on Tuesday. The injured was identified as Mairaj, 40. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. Police are further investigating the matter.

Police claim arrest of Lyari gangster

Baghdadi Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a Lyari gang war member, Faheem alias True alias Boleri, during a raid. According to Baghdadi Police Station SHO Muhammad Akram, a TT pistol and two rounds have been confiscated from Faheem's possession. The SHO said that one of Faheem's brothers, Mullah Siknadar, was a Lyari gang war commander, and two other brothers of his, Naeem and Qadir alias Gotia, were killed during an encounter with Mauripur Police.

Police nab man for 'supplying unhealthy oil'

Shah Latif Town Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a man involved in the supply of unwholesome cooking oil. The arrest was made during a raid in Koohi Goth. According to a police spokesperson, the arrested man, identified as Farooq, has been involved in the supply of cooking oil prepared with animals' offal and waste and police have seized 200 litres of such oil and a pickup from his possession.

Cop injured in road accident

A policeman was killed in a road accident near Ghani Chowrangi in SITE Area on Tuesday. The injured cop, Malik Aftab, 45, is deployed at Kalakot Police Station. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

Bodies of two drowned persons recovered

The bodies of two unidentified persons, who drowned in Malir River near Korangi Crossing, were recovered during a joint search operation launched by the Pakistan Navy and Edhi Marine Ambulance Service on Tuesday. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. At least 12 people have died in rain-related mishaps in Korangi from June 6 to August 30 this year. Among them, six people drowned in Malir River, a minor girl and woman died after falling off a rooftop and four persons were electrocuted to death.

Over 240 officers promoted to grade 19 in Sindh

A Provincial Selection Board Two meeting, headed by Sindh chief secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, approved on Tuesday the promotions of 243 Sindh government officials. The meeting approved the promotion of 63 doctors, including nine senior cardiologists, seven gynaecologists, 11 ophthalmologists, 147 female senior medical officers and 22 senior dental surgeons- all working in the health department, nine irrigation department officials, seven information department officials, two prison department officials, one law department official, four planning department officials, 21 works and services department officials, one auqaf department official, one labour department official and two population department officials to grade 19.

'1.54m animals vaccinated in August'

The Livestock and Fisheries Department claimed on Tuesday to have vaccinated and provided medical facilities to over 1.54 million animals in 26 districts of the province during August, despite monsoon rains wreaking havoc in in many areas. According to a monthly report presented to Livestock and Fisheries Minister Abdul Bari Pitafi, 227 relief camps were set up in 26 districts, where more than 200 veterinary doctors and around 400 veterinary paramedical staff were deployed. The report said that 566,000 large animals, such as cows and buffaloes, and over 777,000 small animals, including goats, sheeps and lambs, were vaccinated at these camps, while medical facilities were provided to 45,000 animals. "Despite the rains in August, the livestock and fisheries department provided timely protection to the animals from seasonal diseases and continued full-fledged vaccination campaign across the province," said Pitafi.

Police nab six 'criminals': Claim to have seized drugs, stolen motorcycles, pistols and ammunition from their possession

Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested six persons involved in illegal activities during separate operations in Karachi.

Chakiwara Police claimed to have arrested three men after finding drugs in their possession.

According to police, the three men, on a motorcycle, were flagged by cops for checking in Lyari in the wee hours of Tuesday and 430 grammes of hashish was found in their possession.

Police said that of the three arrested men, identified as Muhammad Ali, Zubair Abbas and Sikandar, Sikandar had previously been apprehended by Kalakot Police in a case pertaining to drugs. Besides, they added, Ali, too, had been arrested in two cases, including one registered under the Sindh Arms Act, 2013, earlier. Police have taken the arrested suspects' motorcycle into custody.

Separately, Azizabad Police claimed to a have arrested a criminal and confiscated a stolen motorcycle from his possession during a raid carried out at around 3am on Tuesday. According Azizabad Police Station Inspector Shafiq Afridi, the arrested man, identified as Raza, stole the motorcycle, bearing registration number KDX-3242, from Azizabad Police Station. Afridi is being interrogated by police, the SHO said.

Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested by Civil Lines Police during a patrol. The arrested suspects have been identified as Muhammad Ali and Umar Khalid alias Bachcha.

According to Civil Lines Police Station SHO Sub-Inspector Salahuddin Qazi, 120 grammes hashish, a 30-bore pistol, three rounds and a motorcycle, bearing registration number KHJ-1331, which was stolen from the limits of Mithadar Police Station, have been seized from the arrested persons' possession.

Robbery bid: Man shot dead

A man was killed in firing during a robbery bid in Shah Latif Town on Monday night. Robbers, on a motorcycle, shot 30-year-old Zafar when he resisted their attempt to loot him. As a result, he was severely injured and rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Tragedy: Girl electrocuted to death

A 10-year-old girl was electrocuted to death at a house in Quaidabad on Monday night. According to rescue workers, the deceased, Hafza, received severe electric shocks while she was inserting a plug into a socket. As a result, she died on the spot. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
