HARIPUR:

A man has been arrested for allegedly torturing and shaving the head of his wife, the Haripur police have said.

Officials said that in a first information report (FIR) lodged at the Sadar police station of the district, Pind Hashim Khan resident Nimra complained that she was married to Shakeel Khan a month ago.

She added that since then, her husband kept her locked in her room. Every night, she said, her husband would beat her. Recently, the violence grew worse after he started burning her with smouldering cigarette butts and cut her using a razor blade. He also shaved off the hair from her head.

When she raised the alarm, her neighbours came to her rescue. They pushed her husband out of their home and called her parents. They then together filed a complaint with the police.

Police have registered a case under Section 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

A police officer at the station said that after registering the woman's complaint, they had arrested the suspect and presented him before a duty magistrate who remanded him into judicial custody at the Haripur jail.Haripur man arrested for torturing wife

Meanwhile, the aggrieved woman approached a local court, claiming that police deliberately registered a case under 'weak' sections of the law owing to alleged connivance between the suspect and the police.

Court sources said that the police did not direct the complainant to undergo a medical examination to determine the extent of her injuries and their nature, nor did they include the four sections for the crimes that have been described in the FIR.
