Sarwat Gilani hopes 'Churails' ignites demand for much-needed change

Sarwat Gilani's roaring career seems to be on a high since her latest venture, Churails, hit the Indian streaming platform, ZEE5. The actor, who is one of the protagonists of the web series, says after doing the show, her perspective of the word churail has changed, and she now does not mind being called one.

The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani star told The Indian Express, "My perspective of the word 'churail' has changed after working on the show. I believe that someone who is labelled a 'churail' is, strong, fearless and opinionated. I don't mind being called a 'churail' anymore."

She went on to add, "The show is delivering a strong message. The ultimate purpose is to uplift sisterhood and womanhood in society. I hope the show leaves behind a question that leads to much-needed change. The direction we want to take this to, aims at bringing a strong change around us."

In an earlier interview with The Express Tribune, Gilani shared that she was blown away by the script. "The story was the hero, the antagonist and the protagonist and that was something very refreshing and amusing to read."

Speaking about the criticism Churails has received, the actor remarked, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We can’t make people change their minds and think like us. But we surely can make a story which gives them a lot of insight to the rising issues that women are facing locally and globally. We want people to watch the show and have an opinion then."

Churails is directed by new-age Pakistani film-maker Asim Abbasi and also features Mehar Bano, Yasra Rizvi, Nimra Bucha among others. The show has garnered critical acclaim and have been raved by many for its bold content.
