Jhelum faces flood threat
The Jhelum district administration is ready for any eventuality in case of flood, said Deputy Commissioner Rao Pervez Akhter while briefing CM’s Adviser Asif Mahmood. DC Akhter said that seven flood relief camps have been set up in the district. He said that at least 125,000 cubic feet per second (cusec) of water was released from Mangla Dam in Jhelum River due to which it was flowing in medium flood. Many areas close to the river were submerged while three deaths have been reported too. Three children, Usman Hussain, Malaika Umar and Abdul Rehman, were washed away in river torrents in separate incidents. Many cattle heads died too in the suburbs of Jhelum where Jamar Ghal Bridge collapsed severing link of many villages with the city. The DC informed the meeting that Rescue 1122 had rescued 15 people caught in flood and shifted them to safe locations.
