FBR orders steps to prevent food smuggling

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has moved to address the shortage of wheat, flour, sugar, maize, flour, poultry, fruits and vegetables and other essential commodities in the country and instructed the customs department to ensures prevention of the smuggling of food items.

According to a statement issued by the FBR on Friday, the instruction had been issued to the directorate general of intelligence and investigation, Customs, Islamabad, the chief collector, customs, Balochistan, Quetta and the chief collector, customs, North, Islamabad.

The FBR has directed for the prevention of smuggling of food items in compliance with the orders of the prime minister to overcome the shortage of essential commodities in the country.

The statement said that the prime minister had issued the order, following a shortage of wheat, flour, sugar, maize, poultry, fruits, vegetables and livestock in the country. It said that the Pakistan Customs had been asked to use all its resources to control the smuggling, especially the food.

The FBR has also ordered the directorate general of intelligence and investigation, Customs, Islamabad, the chief collector, customs, Balochistan, Quetta and the chief collector, customs, North, Islamabad, to report to the FBR headquarters about the anti-smuggling measures after 15 days.
