Punjab strengthens environmental protection
Punjab government has taken several measures to protect the environment during the last two years, under the umbrella of the Environment Protection Department (EPD), said the spokesperson on Tuesday.
He said the steps taken by the EPD were aimed at promoting sustainable development in the province through integration of environmental considerations in pursuit of economic growth.
Highlighting the achievements of the department, he said that multiple steps were being taken for the protection of the environment in Punjab including work on technical assistance for revitalising the ecosystem of River Ravi basin whereas the implementation of the provincial smog policy has continued which led to the decline in smog.
He said that capacity building of EPD for the enforcement of environmental standards including that of Combined Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) and Industrial Estates (IEs) under the J&C Programme was conducted.
“Environmental laboratories were established at Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur to strengthen monitoring in south Punjab, and missing environmental monitoring equipment in existing eight regional labs of the Punjab EPD were provided to effectively monitor the air and water quality.
