MBBS and BDS admission policy approved

Entry tests to take place from Sept 19 to Oc 25 across country

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the apex regulator of medical and dental education in the country, has approved the MBBS and BDS admission policy for the session 2020-21.

The PMDC Council in its recent meeting allowed all medical universities to conduct MDCAT/entry tests for the session 2020-21 from September 19 to October 25 across the country including AJK while adhering to Covid-19 related SOPs.

Around 250,000 candidates will appear in the MDCAT/entry test through which around 18,000 would be admitted to medical and dental colleges.

As per a statement issued by the council, the weightage for the admissions will be: 50% for the entry test, 40% for HSSC/ FSc: and 10% for SSC.

It has also been decided that a minimum 65% score in FSc (Pre-medical) or equivalent will be required to become eligible for the MDCAT or entry test. Only those students, who obtain at least 33% score in the MDCAT/entry test, will be eligible for admission.

PMDC Registrar Brig (retd) Dr Hafizuddin Ahmed Siddiqui said the council had revised the admission policy to facilitate the students and their parents keeping in line with merit.

He said the total number of multiple choice questions for MDCAT in all provinces and the federal area would be 200 with four options.

Of these 200 MCQs, 80 will be about biology, 60 chemistry, 40 physics and 20 English.

“The duration to attempt the whole paper will be two hours and 30 minutes,” the registrar said.

“The council has directed all universities to complete the admissions well in time.” Regulations related to the admission policy have been uploaded on the PMDC website.

Following the announcement, the Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar has started the process of registration for the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) medical entrance test.

The test will be held simultaneously on September 20 in 15 cities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Swat, Chakdara, Timergara, Batkhela, Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan. Applicants would be intimated about their centre after the completion of registration.

According to the schedule issued by the KMU Directorate of Admission, the registration will start on August 27 and carry on till September 7.

Scratch cards for registration amounting to Rs 3000 will be available from August 31 at different branches of the MCB Bank throughout the province including Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Candidates can register online for the ETEA test from August 27 to September 7 by logging on to https://kmuadmissions.pk.

According to the directorate of admissions the test is also mandatory for candidates seeking admission to KMU Allied Health Sciences undergraduate programmes i.e. Doctor of Physical Therapy, BS Speech & Language Pathology, BS Occupational Therapy, BS Nursing and BS Paramedics.
