A 'Powerpuff Girls' live-action reboot is in the works

The classic Cartoon Network animated show has been picked by CW

If you're a 90s kid, its time to rejoice because a Powerpuff Girls live-action remake in the works at CW, as reported by Variety. 

The Cartoon Network classic that ran from 1998-2005 with six seasons and a total of 78 episodes has been picked up for a remastered take on the three crime-fighters, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. According to Variety, the live-action remake will feature the originally elementary grade girls as twenty-somethings who've grown resentful about losing their childhood to fighting crime. 

At the head of the project as writers and executive producers are Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, with Warner Bros Television producing the show. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden will also executive produce via Berlanti Productions.

The original animated series for Cartoon Network was created by Craig McCracken and featured Professor Utonium who, in his quest to make the perfect little girls, ends up with three little superheroes, the Powerpuff Girls, when he accidentally adds Chemical X to his concoction of 'sugar, spice, and everything nice.'

Both the names at the head of the project, Cody and Regnier have big credits to their name; Cody has won an Academy Award for the best original screenplay in 2008 for writing Juno and also worked on Jennifer's Body, while Regnier is currently signed under a deal with Warner Bros Television.
