In memoriam: Observing Ahmed Faraz's 12th death anniversary
The 12th death anniversary of the progressive poet, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Nigar Awards and Hilal-e-Pakistan recipient Ahmed Faraz is being observed today.
The renowned personality was born on January 12, 1931, in Kohat. He stepped into the field of poetry after completing his initial studies. In the meantime, he also served as an educationist in various institutes.
Faraz was forced into self-exile during the reign of General Ziaul Haq.
He wrote thousands of poems during his lifetime, several of which disseminated into 14 collections. These collections were titled Tanha Tanha, Dard-e-Aashoob, Shab-e-Khoon, Mere Khwab Reza Reza, Beawaz Gala Koocho mein, Nabeena Sheher Mein Aeena, Pas Andaz Mausam, Sab Awazein Meri Hain, Khwab Gul Pareshan Hain, Bodlik, Ghazal Bahana Karun, Janan Janan, and Aey Ishq Junoon.
His work was also translated into English, Persian, French, Hindi, Yugoslavian, Swedish, Russian, German, and Punjab languages.
Faraz enjoyed firm a grip on Persian and Punjabi including various other languages. He suffered from a kidney disease and breathed his last on August 25, 2008.
