Seven fruit orchards to be set up in QAU

ISLAMABAD:

To enhance the green character of the university apart from offering research opportunities, seven orchards will be set up at the Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU).

The orchards will be established at various sites around the varsity as identified by QAU administration by the QAU Alumni Association in collaboration with the Pakistan-Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and the varsity’s Horticulture Cell.

Trees of citrus, olive, guava, apricot and other fruits will be planted in each orchard.

Earlier, under week-long monsoon plantation drive, some 3,000 plants were planted at various sites in the university, including along the new pedestrian track from Hostel 5 to the administration block, National Institute of Pakistan Studies (NIPS), National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR) while newly constructed boys and girls hostels, C and D type colonies, affiliated colleges and other sites.

The 10-day plantation drive was inaugurated by QAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Shah.
