By-polls on Senate vacant seat on Sept 12

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the schedule for the by-polls on the senate seat vacated in Balochistan due to the death of National Party chief Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo.

The polling for the vacant seat will be held on September 12. The Election Commission has appointed the provincial election  commissioner of Balochistan as the returning officer. Candidates for the vacant seat will be able to submit nomination papers to the returning officer on August 27 and 28. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on August 31.

The deadline for handling appeals against the decisions of the RO is September 4. The Election Commission of Pakistan will release final list of the candidates on September 5.

The veteran politician belonging to Balochistan, Bizenjo passed away on Thursday last week while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

Bizenjo had served as Minister for Maritime Affairs during the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) last tenure (2013 to 2018) in the federal government.

The seasoned politician had also remained a member of the National Assembly.Senator Bizinjo was born into a family that played a significant role in Balochistan’s politics.

His father Mir Ghous Baksh Bizenjo, who also served as Governor of Balochistan, was a nationalist leader known for his peaceful struggle to attain Baloch people’s rights within the framework of Pakistan.
