Flatbread prices go up by Rs3 in Pindi
Naanbais in Rawalpindi on Sunday once again unilaterally increased the prices of roti (flatbread).
The revised rates were intimated through the new lists which have been put up at every tandoor (bread oven) causing concern amongst the public.
The district administration, though, has yet to take action against these bread ovens.
The rates of different varieties of flatbread have been increased by at least Rs3. Pateri bread is now available for Rs10, while the new price of naan is now Rs18.
Rawalpindi Naanbai Association President Shafique Qureshi and officials of other representative bodies of the flatbread makers told The Express Tribune that the hike in flatbread prices had become a compulsion after an increase in flour prices.

They reiterated that they couldn't sell bread at rates cheaper than for which they are purchasing flour.
The naanbais warned that they will stage a shutter down strike if the administration arrested or fined any tandoor owner in the city.
Further, the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq has issued orders to 63 price magistrates of the district to carry out strict action against the tandoors selling flatbread at hiked prices.
