NCHD sets informal education syllabus
The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has designed a syllabus and textbooks for an informal education syllabus which will make learning easy and functional. An official of the commission told media on Friday that the NCHD Adult Literacy Centres set up in local communities are providing basic literacy skills to individuals - especially women - in the age group of 11-45 years of age to catch them up on their primary education. “Communities are mobilised to provide space as well as the teachers [for these centres],” he said, adding that women were encouraged particularly to join these centres. After completing the six-month-long course, the student achieves basic literacy status equivalent to that of a grade three student where they can read the simple text of Urdu, write a simple letter and manage to add, subtract, multiply and divide figures of up to four digits.
