Ben Affleck to reprise role as Batman in new 'Flash' film

The film is slated for a summer 2022 release

Ben Affleck is all set to score a second chance at playing the coveted role of the caped crusader as Vanity Fair reports that he might reprise his version of Batman in the upcoming film The Flash.

Affleck has agreed to return as Bruce Wayne for the film that is slated for a summer 2020 release, helmed by Andy Muschietti, who also recently directed It and It Chapter Two. According to VF sources, Affleck got the script last week and already agreed to join the project this week.

Talking about Affleck's Batman in an interview, Muschietti explained, "It has a dichotomy that is very strong. Which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable. He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.”

The film, an adaptation of DC’s 2011 Flashpoint series of comic books, is of course based on the fast-moving superhero Flash, or Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller. Muschietti, however, believes that Batman is "a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before."

"It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in," said Muschietti. "I’m glad to be collaborating with someone who has been on both sides of the camera, too. He understands," he added, referring to Affleck's prowess as a filmmaker; he directed the Oscar-winning film Argo.

What's more exciting that Affleck's Batman is not the only one who will be making an appearance in the film. According to Muscietti, Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film will also be returning!
