Workshop held on child mortality
Pneumonia and diarrhea are major causes of child mortality speakers said at a workshop on child health pointing out that around 25% of children under the age of five years die every year from these two diseases worldwide.
They were expressing their views at the conclusion of the training workshop “Modern Research about the treatment of pneumonia and diarrhea in children” held at the District Health Authority office on Thursday. These two diseases were the leading cause of deaths among the children up to five years, Child Specialist Dr Rai Muhammad Asghar said. He said that the death rate was significantly decreasing in Punjab due to timely diagnosis and the best health care facilities. He asked the parents to adopt preventive measures, adding no doubt that pneumonia and diarrhea are killing diseases but are curable if diagnosed at an earlier stage.
Rai instructed the medical professionals to diagnose and treat pneumonia and diarrhea patients according to WHO standards. The workshop was organised by the District Health Authority Rawalpindi in collaboration with Punjab Health Department and UNICEF. Renowned pediatricians, family physicians, and general practitioners of the city attended the activity.
