Work on metro bus extension expedited
Additional manpower has been sanctioned to help complete the construction of an extension to the metro bus project in the federal capital, from Peshawar Morr to the Islamabad International Airport.
This was directed as the National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Capt (retired) Sikander Qayyum visited the under-construction structure on Wednesday.
Qayyum on Wednesday visited package–I of the project, from the starting point of the corridor.
He inquired about progress on the project and the remaining work such as the installation of lights, electric fans, stainless steel safety grills inside the station, construction of remaining toilet stalls and the installation of chain-link fence.
With the NHA responsible for building the stations, Qayyum said that the pace progress shall be increased further so that this segment of the bus service is completed by the end of August.
Later, he visited the second segment of the bus service.
There, the NHA chief directed to ensure that the project is completed on time without compromising on the quality of the construction.
He was told that material for completing works on the station had been procured after Eidul Azha and that they had redoubled the construction pace.
Qayyum instructed to expedite the process of installing and fixing glassworks, tuff tile works, connectivity and approaches of an overhead pedestrian bridge and installation of a fence to plug gaps.
Noting that he will check progress on August 25, Qayyum said that additional resources should be utilised to expedite civil works. The entire package, he said, must be completed by August 30.
