Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar called on Tuesday the need for empowering local bodies, particularly the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, under Article 140-A of the Constitution.

"I have been raising voice for empowering local bodies for the past four years," he said, appealing to the chief justice of Pakistan to take up his petition regarding the matter.

He stressed that empowering local bodies was the only way to resolve civic issues.

Separately, while visiting Kidney Hill Park, he announced its opening and said that it would remain open for public from 6am to 7pm. "Also, there will be no entry fee," he added.
