Poultry rates hit four-year low

There is mass distribution of free food in the month and this would help poultry prices to rise

RAWALPINDI:

Prices of chickens and eggs in the open market have come down to record lows as the price of chickens has come down to the lowest level in the last four years in double figures.

For the first time in the past four year, the cheapest protein source was selling for Rs97 per kilogramme in Rawalpindi.

Price for a dozen eggs has also slumped from Rs128 to Rs116 on Monday.

Market sources said that poultry rates were down due to availability of the meat of sacrificed animals during Eidul Azha. Once the meat in the deep freezers is consumed, people will start buying chicken again and rates would rise.

Traders said that the mourning month of Muharram was about to begin.

There is mass distribution of free food in the month and this would help poultry prices to rise.
