RAWALPINDI:

Anti-dengue surveillance teams have found aedes aegypti, the dengue fever causing mosquito, in different areas of the garrison city. Following this, the teams have expedited indoor and outdoor surveillance.

The Rawalpindi Health Department has also initiated monitoring the surveillance activity more vigilantly. The failure to curb larvae growth could lead to another epidemic this year too.

In this regard, District Health Authority (DHA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Sohail Chaudhry said that the teams working in the field have been facilitated with the mechanical removing facility to cull mosquito larvae.

He asserted that the administration was running an active campaign to prevent dengue epidemic this year. The CEO also urged the people to take measures to prevent mosquito larvae breeding at their homes.

Chaudhry said that authorities have warned owners of constructed and under-construction houses and markets in the garrison city that strict action will be taken against them if they show negligence during indoor and outdoor surveillance under the anti-dengue campaign.

The surveillance teams have started visiting six sensitive areas, including Dhoke Ratta, Ratta Amral, Dhoke Hassu, Bangash Colony, Pirwadhai and Hazara Colony, where large number of people had suffered from dengue fever last year.
