KARACHI:

Two siblings drowned while another boy went missing after being swept away by high tides in Karachi on Sunday.

According to police, a man and his sister, 20-year-old Omair and 16-year-old Maria, who were residents of Korangi, drowned at Hawkes Beach while bathing in the sea.

Soon after, rescue workers began a search operation and recovered their bodies after an hour.

Police told The Express Tribune that they were visiting the beach with their family and Omair lost his balance in a bid to save Maria, who was drowning. As a result, he, too was swept away.

The bodies were shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital and handed over to the heirs for medico-legal formalities.

Separately, Hamza, 18, was swept away by tides at Sandspit beach, and is still missing.

According to police, he was a resident of Baldia Town and was visiting the beach with his friends.

A search operation was launched after the incident on Sunday, but was suspended in the evening and will be resumed today (Monday).
