Senate panel to get briefed on Joyo’s abduction

A parliamentary panel has summoned Sindh police chief as well as the head of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances – Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal – in its meeting scheduled for Monday [tomorrow] to get briefed on abduction of a rights activists, Sarang Joyo.

Senate Standing Committee on Human Right Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar on Saturday took to Twitter to announce that the committee will be meeting on Monday to discuss a number of issues including the proposed legislation against domestic violence and abduction of the rights activist.

Sarang Joyo went missing from his home in Karachi. He was a research associate and was reportedly campaigning for release of missing persons of Sindh.

“Chaman border incident amongst others will be taken up. Failure of courts of law to protect fundamental human rights is dismaying,” Khokar’s post on the micro-blogging site added.

According to a notification attached with the post, Balochistan home secretary will report on the Chaman incident “resulting in civilian casualties.”
