LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice President Mayarm Nawaz Sharif will participate in the all parties conference and even in any movement, if decided by the opposition parties, against the government, claimed party MNA Javed Latif. However, PML-N sources have not confirmed any such decision by the party leadership.

MNA Latif told The Express Tribune that Maryam was a crowd-puller for the PML-N and why would any party not want to have such a leader as its face. “Any street movement, without Maryam, would be completely pointless.”

He said that without her it would be of no use to participate in any opposition party’s huddle. “Given these factors surrounding Maryam’s leadership quality, it is evident that she will certainly participate in the huddle and lead the party in the movement against the incumbent PTI.

On the decision of the party to run a movement against the government, he said that with the existing state of affairs, it was inevitable for all opposition parties to initiate a movement against the ruling PTI.

He also ruled out speculations regarding PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif not happy with the PML-N workers’ clashes with the police outside the National Accountability Bureau Lahore office, saying that all party leaders stand united behind Nawaz Sharif.

Former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair told The Express Tribune that the party leadership would in the coming few days decide regarding Maryam’s return to politics and convey the decision to Sharif in London, who will take the final decision in this regard.

“Everyone in the party wants her to return and she too wants to play her role in the party.”

He said that it was evident that the party needed a leader like Maryam and that she, without any doubt, was the future leader of the PML-N.

Another PML-N leader said that Maryam had only broken her silence to reply to the ongoing “injustices” of the government against her. The leader said that if it was not for these NAB call-up notices, Maryam would have continued to remain silent.”

It was revealed that Maryam herself wants to return but realising that her return might create problems for Sharif in London, she was holding back. It was said that if the government does not victimise her anymore, she might not return.

Another leader of the party said that Shehbaz would not opt for street agitation against the PTI government but with Maryam in the lead, the party would take to the streets, if such a decision is reached at in the APC.

He said that for this fact alone, there was a lot of support for Maryam to lead the PML-N instead of Shehbaz.

He said that Shehbaz recently ruled out the possibility of marches and protests while holding a joint news conference with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. “What dent could any opposition party, which dreads launching a street movement, put on the government?”

The former Sindh governor said that before proceeding towards the APC, the PML-N should internally deliberate on its own position and then the party should try to convince the other opposition parties regarding its stance.
