Rashid wants to eradicate dengue larvae from Pindi

Directs health authorities, other departments to make joint efforts

The provincial health minister on Monday urged the health authorities of Rawalpindi and other institutions to undertake joint efforts to prevent a viral dengue fever outbreak in the city.

This was directed during a high-level meeting held on Monday, chaired by Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid which reviewed activities about the anti-dengue campaign in the Rawalpindi division. Rawalpindi Commissioner Captain (retired) Mohammad Mehmood briefed Dr Rashid about the steps taken in the division so far to control the dengue epidemic.

Dr Rashid directed to intensify these activities.

Noting that the dengue situation is currently under control in the province, she said that all agencies must work together to stay on top of the disease.

The Punjab Health Department has made significant arrangements in this regard, she said while directing all commissioners and deputy commissioners (DCs) to personally monitor the activities of the anti-dengue campaign.

The administration should ensure the eradication of dengue larvae by identifying hotspots while the public should also be urged to fully implement safety measures, she added.

Regarding the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), Dr Rashid said that a framework outlined by PM Imran Khan and CM Usman Buzdar, the number of new Covid-19 cases has decreased significantly with just 12 cases reported in the past 24 hours.
