A constable of the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) who was shot dead by the unidentified suspects in Nankana was laid to rest in Qila Gujjar Singh, Police Lines on Saturday.
The burial was attended by Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir, Lahore CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed, Lahore DIG Operations Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Lahore DIG Investigations Shahzada Sultan and other senior police officers. The victim identified as Muhammad Ashraf was posted at AVLS Cantt and was on duty to check for stolen vehicles.
The team he was part of, signalled a vehicle to stop. However, the driver of the vehicle ignored the signal and fled from the scene. Ashraf chased the vehicle and the suspects inside the car opened fire. Resultantly, the AVLS constable suffered bullet injuries and was died on the spot.
Reportedly, the victim was survived by three sisters, a widow and a toddler. He was the sole breadwinner of his family.
