Tell-tale signs that you may be in need of a break

Here are some ways that your body signals that you need to take it slow

Long work hours and hectic family life coupled with other commitments including friends can leave us feeling exhausted at the end of a long day.

A busy daily schedule is known to be one of the biggest stressors to our body triggering a myriad of health issues. But what do these triggers signal? A break! Yes, that’s all we need after our mind and body have been stretched to the maximum. Here are some signs that tell you when you need to step back and relax, as compiled from Pinkvilla.

Digestive problems

The digestive tract is one of those parts of the body that are more directly affected by stress. When your body is too tired, you will notice digestion issues, which can include, constipation, stomach aches, and even diarrhea.

Chest pains

One of the more dangerous signs of rising stress levels is a dull ache in your chest. Chest pains may be due to stress but it’s important to tackle them soon because high-stress levels have also been linked to cardiac failure.

Fatigue

Finding yourself too tired to get out of bed but also not being able to fall asleep can also be a tell-tale sign that you need a break from your schedule. Restless sleep also brings with it a dozen other problems so make sure to get a sound sleep as often as possible.

Headaches

A constant nagging around your head can be a sign of your body needing some much-needed rest. Increasing stress levels usually manifest as moderate to severe aches around your head, eyes, and neck.

Weight gain

You may sometimes notice yourself feeling a little on the heavier side out of the blue. This might be a signal of high levels of the hormone cortisol that is triggered due to high stress, and also results in weight gain.

Frequent colds

Stress also attacks our immune system, making us more susceptible to the common cold which may knock you out for a week or longer if not taken care of properly.

Stomach ache

This is largely due to the digestive tract being affected by stress and tiredness. You may feel nauseous more often than usual and a week off might help!
