An Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team claimed on Friday to have arrested six suspects, including two senior officials, for taking bribes to facilitate wheat smuggling to Punjab. A senior ACE official told the media that mukhtiarkar Rasheed Ahmed, district food officer Roshan Ali, head constable Rasheed Ahmed, Abdul Rasheed, Mushtaq Ali and a truck driver were arrested for taking bribes in exchange for helping criminals smuggle wheat from Sindh to Punjab via the Kamoon Shaheed border area. He added that two other food inspectors, Hafeez Joyo and Sardar Mirani, and a food supervisor, Faheem, managed to flee. A case has been registered against eight suspects, accused of helping smuggle 17 trucks loaded with wheat bags to Punjab in a single day. One truck loaded with wheat was impounded, while further investigation of the case is underway.
