Bilal Maqsood criticises the monetisation of Surahs on YouTube

He believes it is 'disrespectful' when a recitation is interrupted by an advertisement

Singer-songwriter Bilal Maqsood in a recent Instagram post expressed his dislike for Surahs and Duas being monetised on online platforms, such as YouTube. The Strings guitarist sees it as disrespect when a recitation is interrupted by an advertisement.

"Surahs and Duas on YouTube should not be monetised," he said. " Imagine listening to Surah-e-Rehman and it is interrupted in the middle by a lawn or a cooking oil ad. It's highly disrespectful," the Mera Bichra Yar singer exclaimed.

Earlier last week, Maqsood talked against the prospect of YouTube getting banned once again in Pakistan. According to him, a complete ban on an app like YouTube is never the solution. " Banning YouTube or any other app is not the solution. Even discussing such issues in this day and age is like pushing our country another 20 years behind," he said.

Adding on he pointed out that those who want to enjoy objectionable content will continue to do so with or without Youtube. " Jisko vulgarity dekhna hai woh YouTube ka mouhtj nahi, (Whoever wants to watch vulgarity is not dependant on YouTube).," he said.
