Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani has directed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to raze all illegal under-construction buildings in the city and ensure the evacuation of dangerous buildings for their residents’ safety.

He was chairing a meeting on Thursday to review the actions taken in pursuance of the Supreme Court orders to remove all illegal structures.

The SBCA director-general claimed the body had completed its survey and was in the process of razing illegal buildings. Moreover, he stated that while residents of dilapidated buildings had been served evacuation notices, they were reluctant to do so.

Shallwani maintained that the implementation of the apex court’s verdict should be prioritised, calling for immediate measures to be taken in this regard.

It was decided in the meeting that SBCA would take immediate action to raze illegal under-construction structures and evacuate dilapidated buildings. Meanwhile, all deputy commissioners were directed to submit reports on actions taken in this regard within a week.
