The provincial government has decided to conduct an optimisation study for improving the performance of the district administrations in the merged tribal areas.
The study will be conducted by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Planning and Development Department with technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Merged Areas Governance Project.
For this purpose, the government has formed a panel of experts comprising deputy commissioners of Kurram and Khyber districts while chief economist Nauman Afridi would head the group.
During the first meeting of the groups, it was agreed that a set of context-specific questionnaires will be prepared so that officials at multiple hierarchies can be covered including deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and heads of line departments of health, education and communication and works.
Law enforcement sector will also be covered with specific reference to the integration of levies force in the police service.
It was also agreed during the meeting to include the leadership of local political forces, apart from local elders to analyse their perceptions and experiences following the merger of the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata) in K-P.
The key findings of the institutional optimisation study, after securing the endorsement of the K-P chief secretary, will be presented to the chief minister for approval.
