Resolution of the issues being faced by the business community is top priority of the government because businessmen are the backbone of national economy, remarked Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
Talking to a delegation of businessmen, led by Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Buzdar pointed out that the current Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was business-friendly and it was making all-out efforts to promote trade and industry.
“Departments pertaining to industry, labour, social security, police and district management have been directed to extend maximum cooperation to the business community,” he said.
Pointing out that the provincial government lifted the lockdown in Punjab three days earlier than scheduled, the chief minister assured businessmen that all decisions would be taken after consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
He emphasised that the development of public sector projects would continue, adding that Metro train would become functional shortly as test run of the service had been completed.
“We will approach the federal government for constructing Gujranwala-Sheikhupura road under the public-private partnership mode,” he said.
Buzdar added that immediate measures would be taken for the development of Faisalabad and the government planned to shift truck stands out of the city.
“Businesses included in the negative list will remain closed while more firms will be allowed to reopen with proper standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place very soon,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said being the largest province of the country, Punjab played a fundamental role in economic stability of Pakistan.
He termed Punjab a hub of manufacturing, agriculture and services sectors of Pakistan. “It is the biggest contributor to the national economy, agriculture and services sectors,” he said. “The province has enormous potential for the production of key minerals such as coal, gypsum, rock salt, limestone, iron ore, marble and granite.”
He stressed that the government should take all decisions after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders as it would help build trust.
