LWMC starts post-Eid combing operation

Disposes of 54,000 tonnes of animal offal

After, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) completed the Eidul Azha cleanliness operation in the metropolis; the department started combing operation to clean any waste that was left unattended.

On the directives of the Punjab chief minister, LWMC disposed of record-breaking 54,000 tonnes of animal waste particularly offal during three days of Eid. The operation was backed by thousands of sanitary workers, machinery including pickups, compactors, dumpers, loaders, and on the support of Turkish contractor companies ie Albayrak and Ozpak.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar appreciated the solid waste management arrangements of the company during the Eid days. The CM acknowledged the efforts of the workers who have worked on Eid holidays and helped ensure a clean environment for Lahorites.

The LWMC chairman and MD followed by other LWMC officials paid frequent visits across the city to monitor Eid cleanliness operation. They also monitored the whole operation from the video wall control room.

The LWMC chairman said the department was working in the light of chief minister’s directives. “The entire staff of the LWMC deserves appreciation over their exceptional performance during Eid,” he said.

The LWMC MD said the department devised a comprehensive strategy to effectively collect and dispose of more than 54,000 tonnes of animal waste ie collection of offal using 1.7 million waste bags which were distributed among masses at Eid Camps, Model Camps, Shops, Mosques and during door to door campaigns.

The strategy also focused on swift and timely lifting of animal waste from streets engaging additional pickups and transportation of waste firstly to 119 temporary waste collection & transfer stations and later on 5 designated dumpsites.

As many as 293 Eid camps established at the union council level helped work in a better and well-coordinated way. Animal waste was dumped at specially established dumping points in an environment-friendly manner covering it with soil and lime.

Special arrangements were made at major slaughterhouses by deploying workers and machinery there including mechanical washing applying phenyl, Dettol, and Arq-e-Gulab. The department also resolved more than 15,000 complaints received on LWMC helpline 1139.

The LWMC spokesperson said the administration has thanked the citizens of Lahore for exemplary cooperation during all days of Eid, adding the LWMC Eid cleanliness operation was successful and it was just because of tireless efforts of the whole department especially sanitary workers.
