KARACHI:

The Korangi Industrial Area police claimed on Monday to have recovered the remains of a child who went missing last month, on the indication of a suspect.

The seven-year-old boy was allegedly killed after being raped by the suspect’s accomplice.

The police had registered the case about the boy’s disappearance on behalf of his father on July 16.

According to the complainant, his son had gone to play with his friends in the ground near their house but was nowhere to be found when the father went to bring him home.

The Korangi Industrial Area investigation police stated that they had arrested a suspect, Rizwan, who confessed during interrogation that he and his friend Azhar had kidnapped the child and taken him to the Korangi river.

The police added that Rizwan claimed Azhar had tried to rape the child but he forbade him from doing so, resulting in an argument. However, the suspect went on to claim, Azhar then raped the boy and strangled him to death before they fled from the spot.

The law enforcers later recovered the boy’s remains from Korangi River on Saturday, from the location indicated by the suspect in his statement. They added that they were carrying out raids to arrest Azhar, further stating that DNA testing would be carried out as well to further legal proceedings.
