Hair care tips for monsoon season
Monsoon is known to bring joy or wreak havoc depending on your location and personal preferences. But one thing that needs extra care during monsoon is your hair. As the rain draws near, so does hair damage, frizziness and hair fall.
Here are a few tips to take extra care of your hair during this season.
1. Ensure your hair is dry
While we all enjoy showering in the rain, remember that rain water is dirty and acidic which is very harmful for your hair. Try to keep your hair protected by not staying in the rain for too long. If you can, try to keep your hair dry unless you’re caught in a heavy downpour.
2. Invest in a good shampoo
Rain is mostly followed with humidity which usually makes the hair texture frizzy. Going in the rain can also make your hair dry and brittle. Make sure to use a mild shampoo which deep cleanses your scalp to remove any residue left behind by rain water. Investing in a good shampoo goes a long way in nourishing your hair and preventing bacterial infections.
Pro tip: Always massage your scalp and shampoo from root to tip.
3. Good old hair massage
If you want to keep your hair protected from the rainy season, massage your hair with oil. The oil will not only nourish your hair but also keep it moisturised and soft. Hair oil naturally provides the moisture your dry and brittle hair strands need.
4. Hold off on tying
Let your hair loose especially when it’s wet. If you must tie your hair then opt for loose bun or ponytail. By tying your hair especially after taking a shower under the rain you’re allowing the dirty rain water to penetrate in your hair and scalp which is unhealthy and harmful for your hair and health.
5. Try keeping your hair covered
The best way to protect your hair is to keep it covered. Try investing in a waterproof jacket or rain coat, if you live where there is heavy rain only during a specific time of the year, invest in good caps to keep it safe from rain water as much as possible.
6. Pick the right comb
A wide tooth is great in detangling your hair and it also serves as a good way to even out the conditioner in your scalp. A wide tooth comb is hands down your best bet in the rain.
7. Condition the right way
There is a right way to condition your hair; apply the conditioner only to the ends and length of your hair and avoid using too much conditioner. Use a wide tooth comb to give the conditioner a good and even spread. Rinse with cold water.
8. Eat right
In order to strengthen your hair, you must ensure you’re eating right. Foods that are rich in protein, iron and omega 3 fatty acids like mackerel, salmon, walnuts work great to make hair healthy and strong.
9. Go short
This is the ideal time to opt for short hair. It will be easier to maintain and take care of.
10. Explore natural alternatives
With Covid-19, we have now realised the importance of using home products for our skin and hair. Use aloe vera to give your hair extra care. By using natural products you will minimise the risk caused by chemicals in synthesised products.
