The Supreme Court (SC) adjourned on Thursday the hearing of the bail plea filed by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khursheed Shah and his son, Farrukh Shah, in an assets beyond means reference due to the absence of the defence lawyer. A three-member bench, comprising Justice Faisal Arab, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar, was hearing the plea in the SC Karachi Registry. An exemption request was filed in court stating that the defence lawyer, Farooq H Naik, could not appear in court as he was in Islamabad. The court granted the request and adjourned the hearing until the next session. Khursheed has been accused of corruption worth over Rs1 billion and will be spending Eidul Azha in jail. The Sindh High Court had earlier rejected Khursheed and Farrukh’s bail pleas.
